The outdoor track and field season is coming up quickly, but before that some local athletes competed indoors in Saskatoon.

The 48th annual Saskatoon Kinsmen Indoor Provincial Championships for peewee and bantam aged athletes were held March 15 and 16 and the Battlefords athletes had a strong showing with four athletes bringing home five medals.

In the peewee girls' division, Jolene Cooke won gold in standing long jump, second in running long jump and was fifth in the 50m race.

At the bantam girls' level, Christina Toovey was third in running long jump, fourth in the 50m race and seventh in shotput.

Alie Lesmeister also competed in the bantam girls' division and was a bronze medalist in shotput and finished 24th overall in running long jump.

The lone boy medalists from the Battlefords was Blaise Sieben. Blaise won bronze in the 1200m run, he was sixth in the 60m hurdles and seventh in running long jump.

These athletes may have the upper hand on training for school track and field season, as the conference and provincial high school track and field events will be held in June.
