The Battlefords AAA Sharks rarely get a chance to play on the road on the weekend and not have to stay in a hotel. They did that with two games of Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action in Saskatoon on the weekend.
With the highway conditions they maybe would have wished they weren't on the road, but nonetheless they were in Saskatoon twice to face the Stars, who sit in the top half of the league's standings.
After the first period Saturday, it was 0-0 and Jacy Akre was the star of the period, as the Sharks' goalie turned away 20 shots.
Saskatoon broke through the Akre wall in the second period with two power play goals - those coming from Charlie Elke and Haley Girolami.
The Stars added a third period goal by Kennedy Harris and won the Saturday matchup 3-0.
There were a combined 18 power plays in the game including third period fighting penalties handed out to Battlefords Rachel Trach and Saskatoon's Haley Tyndall and Emma Yanko.
Akre had a .933 save percentage in Saturday's game and Sunday she posted a .897 save percentage, as the Sharks fell 6-0.
In total she faced 103 shots in 120 minutes and was the first star in both games. She is ninth in the league in save percentage with a mark of .911. She leads the league in minutes played with 1,122 and shots with 739 and saves with 673.
Like the day before, the Sharks held Saskatoon off the scoreboard in the first period.
In the second it was an Elkie power play goal that got the Stars' offence started.
Harris added a goal later in the second period.
In the third period, Paige Michalenko, Kori Herner, Nicole Goebel and Carisbrooke Macnab scored for Saskatoon.
The Sharks were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at the Battleford Arena, as they host Prince Albert.
