"College athletes make large sums of money for their schools and don't see anything for it. I personally believe they should receive an allowance," said Nate Jurgens, a John Paul II staff member, during the opinion portion of his audition to be Canada's Next Sportscaster.
Jurgens drove from North Battleford to Calgary where the audition took place. Around 400 other people auditioned, and only 24 moved on to the finals.
"There is so much talent within the top 24 that anybody has a great chance at winning.I think the one thing that I really have going for me is that I understand The Score brand extremely well as I have been a huge fan of Score Media since the network started back in 1997. I feel that I would really fit in with all of the personalities that work there and would be able to bring a positive approach to my work and interaction with others on a daily basis. It would be an honour to win this contest and get to workwith and learn fromall of the amazing people at the network!"
Jurgens' knowledge of the network led to a successful audition and he earned a spot as a finalist.
"I've always been a huge fan of The Score so I had followed the previous three seasons of Drafted. When I saw online that it was back for a fourth season, I immediately knew that I had to try out," he said.
After the voting period ends, the top two entrants with the most votes are moved into the top six, alongside four others who are judges' picks.
If Jurgens is to win a spot in the top six, he will be featured in an eight episode reality series on The Score. The winner receives a one year contract as an on air personality on The Score, and becomes a spokesperson for Gillette.
The competition is currently in the voting period, and votes can be cast online at drafted.ca/finalists. "I would like to thank everybody that's helped me so far," said Jurgens, "as well as my friends, family and students."
