Junior curling qualifiers in Battleford

The curling season is upon us, and with the start of local recreational leagues quickly comes the start of the competitive provincial season. Nov. 11 to 13 the Battlefords Burling Club hosted the 2011-12 Junior Men's Qualifying Spiel.

The curling season is upon us, and with the start of local recreational leagues quickly comes the start of the competitive provincial season.

Nov. 11 to 13 the Battlefords Burling Club hosted the 2011-12 Junior Men's Qualifying Spiel.

Ten teams from across the province cleaned their shoes and stepped on the curling ice, as Brady Scharback's team from Saskatoon won the second qualifying championship. Scharback beat Daniel Selke in the final draw 11-5 thanks to a five-point ninth end.

Scharback beat David Haines 7-5 in the semifinal and also beat Travis Tokarz 9-2, team Haines earlier by a 9-5 score and Logan Wild by a 10-5 deficit.

Brent Flaman's rink won all four of their games to earn the A-event qualifying spot. Flaman's team from Saskatoon included Mark Nieman, Allan Walter and Tanner Hall.
