LASHBURN — The Lashburn Senior Lady Lobos basketball season began this past Wednesday with a convincing road trip win over Maidstone 66 – 32.
Coach Dave Pero is looking forward to a competitive season with eight veterans and four rookies. This season includes five tournaments, plus eight league games. The team is off to their first tournament in Central Butte this weekend. Tournament play includes two home tournaments — the Christmas Classic on Dec. 11 and 12 and the New Year’s Bash on Jan. 8 and 9.
The girls are looking forward to playing in the sixth annual alumni game Friday, Dec. 18. It is a fun game where they get a chance to compete against the players who have gone through the program before them.
One of the highlights of the season is going to be the third annual pink game at the Lady Lobos home tournament Friday. The host team will play St. Walburg in a game intended to raise awareness about women’s cancers and funds to fight these diseases. The past two games have raised approximately $5,200 through contributions and silent auctions. Anyone wishing to contribute to the silent auction or donate to the cause can call Coach Pero at 306-285-3505.
Coach Pero is also coaching the Senior Lobos, whose season also began Tuesday with a tough loss to Maidstone 72 – 88. The Senior Lobos’ season virtually matches the Lady Lobos’ with both in the same league and attending three tournaments together.
