March 17 - St. Patrick's Day - green was the colour while basketball was the game at Duck Lake.

At the beginning of the basketball season, few, if any, were expecting the Lashburn Lady Lobos senior basketball team to be contenders for the provincial basketball tournament - HOOPLA. However the eight Lady Lobos proved everyone wrong.

Coaches Dave Pero and Jay Elder have watched the eight girls work together with desire and a caring attitude for each other.

Lashburn placed second at conference playoffs in Wilkie, but still advanced to regionals last weekend as an underdog.

At regionals, the Lady Lobos faced Creighton in their first game. The winner was still alive in the hunt for a provincial spot while the loser would drop to the bronze medal match and their season would be over at the end of the weekend. Earlier games between the two teams in the season saw each team win once.

Lashburn held onto a nine-point lead and beat Creighton 59-50. Lashburn was ranked fifth in the province in girls' 2A basketball while Creighton was 12th.

In the regional final, Lashburn faced Stobart, the fourth ranked team. The first quarter ended 9-9, but in the second quarter the Lady Lobos raced out to an early lead. From that point the Lady Lobos didn't look back. They went on to win gold by a 55-43 score and punched their ticket to provincials. Prior to the regional playoff, Lashburn's record was 19-8. This is the first Lady Lobos team to advance to HOOPLA since 1994. Going into action this weekend in Regina, the Lady Lobos are 16-2 over their past 18 games.
