Just like the storm hit Monday night, so too did the North Battleford Beavers' offence in the seventh inning of their baseball game.
The Beavers and the Mervin Flyers squared off in North Saskatchewan River Baseball League action. As the skies threatened to open up all game both teams were thankful to get the game in, but it was North Battleford coming away with the 3-2 victory.
Mervin marched Matt Hougham to the mound and he controlled the Beavers' bats for six innings while his teammates scratched out two runs against North Battlefords' Kyle Gregoire.
Brad Eischen led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and a stolen base for the Beavers. That was followed by a base hit from Rory Gregoire and the Beavers' first run. Next, Ryan Shepherd reached base with a blooper into shallow centre field and Tyler Russell was intentionally walked to load the bases.
With three runners on base, Aaron Cadrin bunted the ball by the pitcher to tie the game. Later in the inning, with one out, Matt Benson hit a chopper to the shortstop and was thrown out, but the winning run scored and the game was over.
The Beavers stole what would have been the Flyers first win of the season and improved to 6-3 in the NSRBL, which put them in a tie for fourth with five games remaining.
