After the May showers and the sunshine this week, the grass around the Battlefords is quickly turning green. That is a great sign for anyone interested in an outdoor activity, especially lawn bowling in the Battlefords this summer.
Lawn bowling is a sport for all ages. The members of the local club invite anyone who has perhaps put on some winter weight, wants to maintain flexibility, or simply meet new people, to experience the sport.
Men and women, young and not so young, all meet at the lawn bowling greens in Centennial Park across from the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre and the tennis courts, where the Battlefords Lawn Bowling Club has been established for 34 years.
New members are always welcome and free lessons are available to anyone interested on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning May 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Bowls are provided, as everyone is encouraged to partake in the game that emphasizes fun and fellowship.
The clubhouse is recently renovated and pick up games happen three times a week. Club members also participate in tournaments at other clubs through the season. It is a recreational sport that can be as competitive or relaxing as you make it.
