A well-known local name now has a new role at the Northland Power Curling Centre in North Battleford.
Twin Rivers Curling Club, based out of that facility, has announced that Len Taylor is taking on the general manager's position effective this month.
Taylor, who has had a long political career representing the Battlefords as an MLA and before that as an MP, began his new role on a part-time basis Sept. 3. The curling club says he will continue to work part-time over the next three weeks as he finishes his commitments with his previous employer.
Taylor, who headed up provincial ministries when he served in cabinet under Premier Lorne Calvert, was described by the club as bringing "a wealth of experience and expertise in many areas of management."
In addition to announcing a new GM, Twin Rivers Curling Club has also unveiled its list of coming events for this month.
They plan a private luncheon for naming rights holder Northland Power on Sept. 18, but the biggest event open to the public promises to be their second-annual "All Ford Outlaws" car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21.
Last year's show helped open the new curling facility to the public, prior to the installation of the ice surface and the official grand opening in October 2012. The cost for admission for this year's car show is $5 per person with under-12 free.
As well, curling registration begins Sept. 23, with more details to come.
