After two games of the championship final hockey, the Maidstone Jets and Meadow Lake Stampeders solved nothing.

Both teams won games in their opponent's rinks and the best-of-seven series was cut down to a best-of-five in the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League final.

Saturday in Meadow Lake, Maidstone got out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Rory Gergoire, Jared Rutley and Kent Sayers. Meadow Lake had their chances, but couldn't score around Dustin MacDonald's net.

In the second period, Maidstone added two more by the halfway point, those coming off the stick of Brett Harrison.

Maidstone ran into some penalty trouble later in the second period and Meadow Lake got on the board with goals from defencemen Steven Spencer and Logan Gorst.

The game was 5-3 in favour of the Jets heading into the third period.

Maidstone added three more goals in the final 20 minutes, while Meadow Lake countered with just two and the game ended 8-4.

Chris Hartman, Kevin Rhinehart and Troy Johnston scored for the Jets in the third period while Cole Fern and Eric Calibaba scored for Meadow Lake.

The game was a rough one, as both teams had their share of penalties. Each team earned a fighting major in the second period and Meadow Lake lost two players to suspensions coming late in the third period. Calibaba earned a high sticking major in the final three minutes of the game and Spencer left the bench in the dying seconds while there was a scrum on the ice near the Maidstone net.

With two top players out of their lineup for game two Tuesday, Meadow Lake buckled down and earned the 4-2 win.

Rick Dallyn, who played in the previous game for Meadow Lake was strong in Maidstone.

Calvin Fiddler, Dustin Gorst, Jordan Keller and Ashton McIntyre scored for Meadow Lake while Harrison and Marco Pellizzari responded for the Jets.

The series shifted back to Meadow Lake Thursday for game three with game four set for Saturday back in Maidstone.

Game times for the rest of the series have yet to be posted.
