Heading into North Saskatchewan River Baseball League action Thursday evening, three of the four teams from Lloydminster held the top three spots in the standings.

The Lloydminster Junior Redhawks are 5-1 this season, the Border City Blue Jays are 4-0 and the Lloydminster Meridian Twins are close behind with a 4-1 record.

The local area teams struggled out of the gate and some are now back in the swing of things after the opening week.

The North Battleford Beavers are 3-3 with their wins coming over Unity, St. Walburg and the Redhawks. The Beavers played Wednesday in Lloydminster against the Redhawks and earned the 8-5 victory.

The Wilkie Brewers moved back to .500 after winning their first of two games this week. The Brewers beat the Midwest Expos 15-5 Monday.

Robert Cey made his third pitching appearance of the season and held the Expos to just four hits and five unearned runs in the win. All nine batters for Wilkie had a hit and scored at least once in the game, while Jared Herle highlighted the offence with a solo home run.

The Brewers were scheduled to play Thursday in Wilkie against the St. Walburg Reds.

The Reds won their first game of the season Sunday against the Mervin Flyers by a 7-2 score. The Reds moved to 1-3 on the season while the Flyers sat at 0-5 heading into action Thursday.

Mervin also lost to Unity 9-1 Tuesday and were scheduled to finish the week Thursday in Lloydminster against the Expos.

The Unity Cardinals are 2-2 on the season and were scheduled to play Thursday and Sunday against Standard Hill and Meadow Lake.

The Cardinals fell 6-4 to Kindersley Sunday and returned to the winning column Tuesday in Mervin.

Standard Hill lost 3-0 to the Redhawks Tuesday, which dropped them to 0-4 on the season. The Lakers were scheduled to play Wednesday against the Border City Blue Jays and had that game rained out.

The NSRBL has 16 games schedule from Thursday, June 7 to Thursday June 14. Those games should see the league standings start to take shape, as all teams should have at least six games played.
