Forty-two years of rodeo in the Battlefords was celebrated on the weekend, as the annual Kinsmen Indoor Rodeo took place at the North Battleford Civic Centre.

Among some of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the Canadian Cowboys' Association were many local riders and one claimed the weekend's championship belt in his division.

Few voluntarily jump off a speeding horse and land on a running steer. Justin Miller of North Battleford gave the fans something to cheer about Saturday when he wrestled down a steer in 3.6 seconds. That was good enough for the first prize buckle and some cash, as he edged out Scott Sigfusson of Davidson by two tenths of a second.

In the saddle bronc event, Jeremy Tennant of Provost, Alta. had a championship ride of 79 Friday to take first place. Beausejour, Man.'s Kirk Thompson had a 77-point ride for second place.

Buck Moen of Elrose won the bareback riding event with a 74 point ride. Monty Koopman of Medicine Hat, Alta. was a point back and in second place after his ride Sunday.

Sigfusson was second in another event on the weekend, that being tie down roping. Shawn Willimson of Mankota was first with a time of 8.8 Saturday.

In the team roping event, Rocky Ross of Botha, Alta. and Marty Lillico of Stettler, Alta. won with a 4.1 time. In second in the team roping event were Clay and Garret Brownlee of Moose Jaw.

The ladies' barrel racing had 61 riders register before the event and it was Steffanie Mather of Brooks, Alta. who rode to a 13.28 time. In second place with a mark of 13.32, Rebecca Beebe of Islay, Alta.

Not one rider of the 16 riders registered in the bull riding event lasted the full eight seconds, nor did any of the novice saddle bronc riders or novice bareback riders, but Brady Resch won the novice bull riding event with a 70 point ride. Resch is from Maple Creek. In second in the novice bull riding event was Nolan Jans, who is also from Maple Creek.
