Local badminton players place at Districts, Regionals

Some have won Districts, and others are moving on to Provincials. Local badminton players were swinging their way to titles and advancement over the weekend.

Some have won Districts, and others are moving on to Provincials.
Local badminton players were swinging their way to titles and advancement over the weekend.
Junior players competed at the 2011 Junior Badminton District Championships in Humboldt May 7.
In boys' singles, Reid Gardiner of Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) claimed first place, while Braeden Lozinski of Archerwill placed second.
In girls' singles, Chanelle Gaudet of Bellevue placed first, and Santana Dreaver of Yellow Quill.
The Rose Valley team of Danielle Hunt and Keenan Kowalyk won the mixed doubles event, while Thomas Smale and Nahtahni Paquachan of Wadena placed second.
In boys' doubles, Brandon Thoms and Tristan Hering of Bruno placed second, after Keenan Hilbig and Dallas Wickstrom of Wadena.
And in girls' doubles, Lauryn Appelt and Jodi Karasiuk of Wakaw placed second, and Haley Sunshine and Kelsey Hilbig of Wadena, first.
Other local players who advanced to Districts from this area included:
Boys' singles: Tanner Brockman of Middle Lake, Spencer Ewen of Watson, Ryley Zimmerman of Englefeld, Adam Willems of Lanigan, and Dalyn Smith of Lake Lenore.
Girls' singles: Michelle Breker of Muenster, Taylor Stelzer of St. Dominic School in Humboldt, and Kelsey Scully of Bruno.
Mixed doubles: Blaine Dawood and Brianna Smith of HCI, Tanna Miskolczi and Dylan Venderbush of Englefeld, Cameron Eisner and Emily Glaser of Muenster, Riley Ebner and Larissa Tremel of Bruno, and Benjamyn Rautro and Princess David of St. Augustine School in Humboldt.
Boys' doubles: Tyler Pitzel and Logan Burkhart of Middle Lake, Connor Guillet and Stephen Revering of HCI, Lyndon Varga and Taylor Rueve of Muenster, Carson Ramler and Braden Knittig of Annaheim, Nicholas Dyck and Dylan Elke of Lanigan, Logan Seipp and Dawson Atamanchuk of St. Augustine School.
Girls' doubles: Madison Osmak and Taylor Hubert of Wakaw, Payton Voz and Lisa Prodahl of Lake Lenore, Bailey Back and Sarah Lacoursiere of Muenster, Miranda Tait and Rianna Colhoun of Lanigan.
Senior badminton players advanced from District to Regional play in Yorkton on May 7.
Attending Regionals from this district were Justin Vidak of Englefeld in boys' singles, Molli Patton from Annaheim in girls' singles, Cole Sommer and Rebecca Athmer of Englefeld in mixed doubles, Blair Miskolczi and Braeden Schwartz of Englefeld, and Travis Crone and Brett Kunz of Annaheim in boys' doubles, and Cara Kielau and Taylor Krentz of Middle Lake in girls' doubles.
Preliminary results are as follows:
In boys' singles, Justin Vidak of Englefeld placed first and will advance to Provincials.
In girls' singles, Carleen Meszaros of Wakaw won first place, but she is unable to attend Provincials. This means second place finisher Molli Patton of Annaheim will attend Provincials in her stead.
In boys' doubles, the Englefeld team of Blair Miskolczi and Braeden Schwartz placed first and will advance to Provincials.
Provincials will be held in Biggar May 14.
