Four baseball teams from Humboldt and the surrounding area proved themselves to be the best in the province over the weekend.

The Humboldt Pee Wee AA Dodgers, Bantam A Dodgers, Muenster Mosquito Red Sox and the Bantam AA Muenster Red Sox all took home provincial championships.

The Pee Wee Dodgers went 3-0 in round robin play at the tournament held in Yorkton before winning a close 2-1 tilt against the Weyburn Beavers in the semifinals. The provincial championship game against the Yorkton Cardinals was a bit of a laugher as the Dodgers came away with an 11-3 win.

The team will now represent Saskatchewan at the Western Canadian Baseball AA Minor Championships, to be held in Swift Current Aug. 16-18.

In Carnduff, the Mosquito edition of the Muenster Red Sox crushed the competition at the A2 level. After having their first game cancelled due to rain, the Red Sox swept all of their games on Saturday to earn a spot in the semifinals against Carnduff.

The semifinal was an offensive display as Muenster crushed the host team by a score of 15-0. The final was a matchup of two unbeaten teams as the Red Sox took on the Moose Mountain Drillers of Carlyle/Kipling.

Muenster didn't waste any time, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looking back. The final score was 12-4 and it was the second provincial championship in a row for the team. Of special note was the team's defence, which only gave up 10 runs in five games.

The Bantam AA version of the Red Sox took the field in North Battleford.

After a 2-1 record in round-robin play, the team beat Lloydminster in the semis to advance to the final against Swift Current.

In a convincing performance the Red Sox won 12-3 and earned the right to compete at the Western Canadians in Swift Current much like the Humboldt Dodgers.

Also qualifying for the Western Canadians were the Bantam A Humboldt Dodgers.

All in all, it was a great weekend for baseball in the area.
