Local brings home Alberta provincial silver

From hockey straight to baseball for Battlefords athlete Keanu Foulds. He joined forces with the Goodfish Lake Hawks for the Alberta Mosquito Provincial Baseball Championships, and won a silver medal. The tournament was spread over three weekends.

From hockey straight to baseball for Battlefords athlete Keanu Foulds.

He joined forces with the Goodfish Lake Hawks for the Alberta Mosquito Provincial Baseball Championships, and won a silver medal. The tournament was spread over three weekends. Round robin wins over the Edmonton Blue Jays, Edmonton Padres, Edmonton South Jays and Sherwood Park Athletics put the Hawks through to the tier 1 provincial championships hosted by Slave Lake.

Due to rain, the round robin game against Wainwright was the championship final. The game was tied 2-2 going into the sixth inning. Goodfish scored three runs. taking a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth. With some untimely walks and some bad breaks, Wainwright managed to score four runs, taking the championship game 6-5.

It was an excellent pitchers duel for five innings. Both starting pitchers combined for an impressive 21 strikeouts, which earned them players of the game honours. The game was played like game seven of the World Series.
