Sergeant Jason Reimer, 16, of North Batleford proudly wore the yellow-jersey, as he entered the range during the Pursuit Race following his gold medal finish in the senior male mass start race during the 2013 National Cadet Biathlon Championship this week in CFB Valcartier, Que.

"I wanted to win a medal as a team or as an individual at this competition," said Jason, who has been training for this day for the past eight years. "Biathlon combines two fun activities, and to have the chance to do it at the national championships is a great experience."

It would appear that those eight years have paid off. Following his gold medal finish March 4, Jason picked up his second medal as an individual with the silver in Tuesday's pursuit race. Friday he added to that with the top spot during the team patrol race.

The 26th annual National Cadet Biathlon Championship commenced March 3, with 138 cadet biathletes and 60 cadet officials from every province and territory in Canada.

"Qualifying for this championship is no easy feat, and aiming for gold begins one stride at a time," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "I wish the best of luck to the cadets and instructors at this year's national championship.
