The 32nd Annual Ed Henick Senior Bowl in Saskatoon had some local flavour with Humboldt well represented.

Three competitions took place at the Saskatoon Minor Football field  on Saskatoon’s south end with 6-man, 9-man, and 12-man North versus South games.

Jared Giddings, Jacob Zimroz, and Cody Weyland brought their skill to the 9-Man North Team, who also included players from Melfort, Wakaw, and Watrous.

The North marched the ball down the field a couple of times for a 47-13 win over the South Team, which consisted of teams from Foam Lake, Lumsden, and Moose Jaw.

MVP plaques were awarded to both North and South players.

Giddings was honoured to take home the MVP for the North but everyone played really great he said.

“The whole team played well and I couldn’t have done it without them,” he says.

Weyland was really happy with how the team played and how everyone came together.

“Everybody from the North really worked hard all weekend and we came together and made a great bond.”

To top off their high school football careers with such a win while playing with fellow Mohawks will stay with Weyland forever, he says.

Giddings made a lot of new friends at the game since the communities rarely get to play together.

“We played against them in the season but now we get to form a team with them. It was fun to play with them for the last game.”

HCI football coach, Cory Popoff, was in attendance as well to watch his players. He really saw the team working together   and his Humboldt players really made him proud.

“You can tell they love the game of football and they all contributed quite well to this North side win.”
