Local rink makes playoffs at Dominion Championship

With 15 teams entered in Rosetown to compete it the Dominion Women's Provincial Championship there was no shortage of action packed games.

With 15 teams entered in Rosetown to compete it the Dominion Women's Provincial Championship there was no shortage of action packed games.

The Twin Rivers Curling Club representatives skipped by Nicole Beausoleil played seven games and found themselves in the qualifying bracket.

Beausoleil won her first game Friday by a 9-2 score over Elaine Osmachenko of Moose Jaw. Later that day, Beausoleil beat the Jennifer Wickenheiser rink of Abbey by a 5-4 score.

The Battlefords team's first loss came Saturday at the hands of the Heather Burnett rink from Martensville. The score was 8-1, which knocked Beausoleil down to the B event.

Saturday afternoon, Beausoleil won 9-1 over Balgonie's Pat Gottselig.

Saturday evening, the Beausoleil rink won 6-5 after scoring three points in the final end to make it into the qualifing round with a win over Dawna Shand of Saskatoon.

In the page playoff, qualifying bracket, Beausoleil faced Darlene Gillies, who often skips a team out of Unity but this time was carrying the Kindersley name.

Gillies fell 7-5 and was eliminated from the playoffs while Beausoleil moved forward to face Heather Burnett in a rematch. This game was closer, but it was Burnett with her second win against the Twin Rivers Curling Club team, as she advanced to the final. Burnett went on to beat Jana Tisdale of Regina 5-4 in the final.

Joining Beausoleil from the Twin Rivers Curling Club were third Christy Walker, second Kristi Frolek and lead Becky Dutchak.

At the Dominion Men's Provincial Championship in Ituna, it was two and done for Doug Horn and his rink from Twin Rivers Curling Club. Horn lost 7-3 to Ryan Wenarchuk and after leading Clayton Wicks 4-3 after five ends, Wicks scored four and six points in the sixth and seventh end for the win.

Steven Pederson, Garron Horn and Ken Wood were other members of the Horn rink.
