Members of the Battlefords Sailing Club enjoyed the home-lake advantage at last weekend's annual regatta.
Joe Gerlinsky, Clinton Nash and Tannis Kemp, who crewed a 29er class sailboat with skipper Heather Boyle, took home podium finishes after strong performances on Jackfish Lake.
Gerlinsky finished second in the open class, sailing a 2.4 metre class boat. Nash was third in the Laser 4.7 metre class. Kemp and Boyle also finished third place in their class.
Ian Mercer, also a member of the club, and Dennis Mercer also teamed up. The duo competed in the Open Class in a Santana sailboat.
The regatta was a warm-up for Gerlinsky and Kemp, who are set to compete in the Canada Summer Games for Team Saskatchewan in Sherbrooke, Que. from Aug. 2 to 17.
The Laser District 5 Championship was the regatta's major event. Sailboats from Alberta and Saskatchewan competed. Phil Paxton from the Calgary Sailing Club took first place. He has experience competing in national and international regattas, including trans-oceanic races.
Louis Pierre Gagnon from the Saskatoon Sailing Club brought home silver as the only sailor from Saskatchewan with a podium finish in the event.
The Calgary Sailing Club also took home the bronze medal as Terry Reid finished third.
