Locals in tough at provincial golf

After qualifing from the Battle West and Northwest school divisions, a handful of local high school golfers hit the links for the provincial grass green championship in Humboldt Sept. 24 and 25.

After qualifing from the Battle West and Northwest school divisions, a handful of local high school golfers hit the links for the provincial grass green championship in Humboldt Sept. 24 and 25.

The top female golfer was a Walter Murray student with a 160 score. Danielle Blackmer of Maidstone was fourth. Blackmer shot a 92 on day one and followed that with a 94 on the Saturday.

Hilary Glasser of Moosomin was tied for 23rd with a two-day total of 225, Bethany Kuhmayer of Glaslyn finished in 25th at 228, MacKenzie Harley of Lashburn shot a 241 and was 30th and Janay Leniuk of John Paul II was 32nd with a 244.

McLurg golfers Kerstin Jensen, Chantel Johnson, Janel Miller and Jill Gruber were 35th, 41st, 47th and 50th respectively and the McLurg team finished in sixth place overall with a 724 total.

As for the male golfers, the top Northwest golfer was Reece Shortman of Goodsoil who finished in 27th with 81 and 86 scores. The best score on the men's side was a 153.

Colton Brazeau of Maidstone was 30th with a 169, tied for 34th was Travis Pliska of Goodsoil with a 171, Gabrielle Natha of Goodsoil was 48th with a 177, Troy Wakelin of North Battleford Comprehensive High School was 52nd with a 178, Regan Baer of Goodsoil shot 182 and was 61st, Hayden Friedrich of NBCHS was tied for 67th with a 189, Tory Tyndall of NBCHS was tied for 71st with a 196 and Tyler Wilson had an impressive 77 after the first round, but didn't finish.

The Goodsoil team finished in sixth place with a 484 total and the NBCHS team was 14th with a 510 total.

Edam sent a team to Punnichy for the provincial sand green championship on the same weekend and the team finished fifth with a 729 score. Waldheim was the top team with a 637 score.

Joshua LaClare shot an 80 and 76 and finished in seventh place. Owen LaClare shot an 84 and 86 and was tied for 11th, Denzil McCaffrey shot a 101 and 89 and was 22nd and Adam Longjohn finished with a 108 and 121 and in 31st.

On the female side, Debbie Mcfarlane was 12th with a 232 and Brandi Kobes was 23rd with a 337.
