Cami Wooster of Luseland was part of the Sask Tazers last year when that team won the Western Shield Female Hockey Championship in Manitoba.

This year she played in the 51st Western Shield Female Hockey Championship in Regina with the Sask. Wheat Queens and again claimed the championship.

"Our team was put together in memory of Mandi Schwartz who died of Leukemia last year at the age of 23," said Wooster. "Mandi was a friend and teammate to many of the girls on our team. The Sask Wheat Queens consisted of players from all over Saskatchewan who have previously played University level hockey."

April 13 to 15, featured the best female senior teams in Western Canada including four teams from Saskatchewan and representatives from British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba.

The tournament was set up in a round robin format with the Sask. Wheat Queens winning gold in the A division. In the round robin, the Wheat Queens won 5-2 over the host Saskatoon Ducks, won 8-1 over the B.C. Thunder, tied the Calgary Coyotes 2-2 and beat the Manitoba Herd 7-1.

In the championship game, the Wheat Queens went into double overtime with the Calgary Coyotes and prevailed with a power play goal to win 4-3.

"The weekend was very successful for our team and we came out with a gold medal," said Wooster. "It was great to get together with old teammates and friends during the Western Shield, and also to play some competitive hockey. "

Wooster has also suited up for the University of North Dakota, University of Alberta, Team Sask, the Edmonton Chimos and Saskatoon Veterans where she has had success with all of them including a Canada-West Championship in 2007-08.
