Making a pledge to curling

The North Battleford Granite Curling Club shut its doors years ago and since then the dream to have a new curling rink in North Battleford was put into motion.

The North Battleford Granite Curling Club shut its doors years ago and since then the dream to have a new curling rink in North Battleford was put into motion.

The Granite Curling Club made a large contribution to the Credit Union CUPlex Saturday at the March Madness event at the Alex Dillabough Centre. The presentation was on the program of the banquet for the men's curling bonspiel on the weekend.

The club has pledged to donate $500,000 to the CUPlex, specifically the Northland Power Curling Centre and Saturday they made their first installment - a $100,000 donation.

The club began raising money more than 10 years ago through bonspiels, working concessions, bingos and hosting events such as the Tankard and the Scotties.

Along with the donation, the club also thanked the many volunteers for their efforts throughout the curling season. Those gathered Saturday also enjoyed supper, entertainment by comedian Brad Muise and Mobile Monkey DJ.

The banquet marked the end of the season at the Battleford Curling Rink and ultimately the start of the Northland Power Curling Centre.
