They're first in the league at the moment, but they're not resting on their laurels.
The Marysburg Royals had a week of wins in the Saskatchewan Senior Baseball League (SSBL) last week.
On June 18, the Royals played the then first-place Smoking Guns in Saskatoon.
Royal Mathew Strueby got the start on the mound and pitched a complete game, giving up only one earned run.
"Our defence did not help him much as we made five errors," reported Royal Curtis Strueby. " However, Mathew battled hard and threw a great game for us to get the win."
The Royals' offence was once again hot, as they got 10 hits. Brent Puetz led the way, hitting his second home run of the season.
The Royals then played the much-improved Saskatoon Dodgers on Thursday, June 21 in Saskatoon.
Paul Strueby got the start on the mound for the Royals. After four innings there was no score; however, the Royals woke up in the fifth and capitalized on a couple of Dodgers errors to score five runs.
In the sixth inning, the Royals scored six more runs as the Royals cruised to an 11-0 victory.
Paul Strueby threw a complete game and the defence was solid behind him, making only one error. The bats were lively again as the Royals had nine hits with Cole, Braden, and Colin Bauml leading the way with two apiece.
The Royals then played the Saskatoon Outlaws in a doubleheader on Sunday, June 24 in Marysburg.
The first game saw the Royals win by a score of 8-2.
Bevan Ledingham threw six strong innings before giving way to Mathew Strueby, who pitched a flawless seventh. The Royals' defence only made one error and Cole Bauml led the way offensively with two hits including a home run. Braden Bauml and Brent Puetz also had two hits each.
The second game saw the Royals win by a score of 8-6.
They were actually down 5-1 in the fourth, but battled hard and came out on top.
Mathew Strueby threw four innings and Paul Strueby threw the last three innings to give the Royals the victory.
"We made a couple errors that cost us a couple runs but our pitchers and offence were able to battle through it," Curtis Strueby noted.
Their offence was very good once again, getting 10 hits. Luke Strueby and Braden Bauml led with two hits each.
The Royals' record now stands at 8-1 in league play.
"We have been playing really solid ball as of late," Strueby said. "Our defence has actually been a little shaky, but our pitchers and offence have been outstanding."
Their excellent play has moved the Royals into first place overall in the league.
"But we know that can change in a hurry if we don't continue to play well every game," Strueby said. "We have had a good season so far, however, there is a lot left."
Not only did the Royals play the Blue Jays in Saskatoon on June 25, they head to Kenosee and Carlyle this weekend for the annual Big Moose Tournament.
