Last weekend marked the end of the 2012 high school badminton season, the provincial championship took place in Melfort.

The girls' doubles team of Haley Enns and Meghan Lybeck were perfect on the weekend, as they earned the provincial gold medal. The Medstead team went 3-0 through the round robin and didn't surrender more than 13 points in a set, as they beat Ponteix, Maryfield and Naicam.

In the semifinal Haley and Meghan continued their dominance with a 21-11, 21-8 win over the team from Maple Creek.

The final against Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney was much closer, but the Medstead girls prevailed with a 21-18 21-16 win to capture their second provincial championship in two years.

The other local representative to make it to the playoffs and compete for a medal was John Paul II's Calvin Perepeljuk in the boys' singles event.

Calvin went 2-1 in round robin play with his only loss coming in three sets to Loreburn, who finished on top of the round robin standings. In the semifinal, Calvin lost 21-8, 21-14 to the Saskatoon Feehan representative.

In the bronze medal game, it was a rematch against Ian Abbott of Loreburn and again Calvin came up short as he lost 21-16, 21-12.

Kelsey Wildeman of Unity played in the girls' singles division and lost all three of her round robin games in the competitive pool. Kelsey lost in three sets twice as the three teams ahead of her had similar 2-1 records after the round robin.

Paradise Hill's Megan Kretzter and Riley Macnab also were in Melort competing for the mixed doubles provincial title. The Paradise Hill team lost all three of their round robin games.

The next high school sport on the schedule will be track and field, as the district meet will be held May 23 and 24 at the North Battleford Centennial Track.
