MELFORT — The Melfort Peewee AA Mustangs will be introducing games on Hockey Night in Canada.
The game they will be introducing will be featured on Dec. 22.
“We were chosen by their sponsored teams,” said Dale Atkinson, manager of the Melfort Peewee AA Mustangs. “Our team put in the application for the sponsorship, so Scotiabank gave $1,000.”
The team was later contacted by Scotiabank from Toronto in October to inform them they were invited to be on Hockey Night in Canada, selected from their list of sponsored teams.
“I’m very excited for the kids to be involved,” Atkinson said. “Seven of the kids that we choose at random... have speaking parts in that segment that will be introducing the game for that Saturday evening.”
The entire team will be in the segment visually.
“They also did some videoing during the practice of drills to give all the kids on the team some exposure.”
Atkinson said he appreciated all the support the team was given.
“The Hockey Night in Canada segment is really the icing on the cake, but we really appreciate all the sponsorship that minor hockey receives whether it’s from local individuals, local businesses, or lager corporations like Scotiabank. That really helps us to keep the costs down so the sport of hockey can appeal to as many families as possible.”
