Men’s Bonspiel wraps up at Twin Rivers Curling Club

Winners in four event categories were crowned Sunday.

NORTH BATTLEFORD ‑ Twin Rivers Curling Club has wrapped up a successful 97th annual Men's Open Bonspiel.

The bonspiel began Friday and wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Northland Power Curling Centre, with winners in four events.

Winning the A event was Team Mitchell, consisting of skip Stewart Mitchell, third Adam Bugg, second John Prokopchuk and lead Henry Welford. They defeated the Lorne Voinorosky team which included Brian Welford, Al Gabert and Brian Neabel. 

The B event was won by the Flichel team with skip Barry Verhoeven, third Garry Flichel, second Alan Hoffman and lead Barry Flichel. They beat the Wayne Pauls team from Spiritwood.

The C event was taken by the Scheible team consisting of skip Wayne Scheible, third Bill Rayner, second Len Taylor and lead Wayne Rafuse. They defeated the Dale Smith team.

The D event was won by the Hilsendager team with skip Perry Hellofs, third Brent Hilsendager, second Brandon Hall and lead James Waggoner. They defeated the Doug Fehr team skipped by Tim Schultz.

In total, 64 curlers representing 16 teams from the Battlefords and area competed from Friday to Sunday, including teams from St. Walburg, Spiritwood, Medstead and Wilkie. 

This week, the Twin Rivers curling season wraps up with the final week of league play. The ice comes out next week and Northland Power Curling Centre, including the arena surface, will be available for rental use beginning mid-April.
