The first game for the expansion Meota Combines is now in the books in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League.
The Combines, who play their home schedule in North Battleford at the Civic Centre, fell to the Maymont Settlers 6-3 in their first game there Nov. 17.
Maymont got two goals from Kolton Baptiste and markers from Chad Bernier, Taylor Fauchoux, Michael Pylypow and Austin Severson en route to the win. Scoring for Meota was Aaron Cadrin with two goals and Daxen Collins with one goal.
It was Cadrin who scored the first Meota goal in team history in the second period, assisted by Sean Leniuk and Sean Kenny. By that point, however, Maymont had already scored four times.
Carson Churchman and Chris Honig were in net for Meota with Churchman stopping all the Maymont shots. Mat Leitner stayed in net the whole way for Maymont.
The only other game from last weekend in the SPHL saw the Cut Knife Colts defeat the Perdue Pirates 11-3. Gino Frank had a hat trick for the Colts in that contest played Friday night in Cut Knife.
This weekend's action sees Shellbrook host Perdue on Friday night, and then Spiritwood hosts Glaslyn and Cut Knife hosts Shellbrook on Saturday night.
The Combines' next home game at the Civic Centre is Dec. 1 against Glaslyn. The defending champion Battleford Beaver Blues won't be at home until Dec. 7 against Perdue at Battleford Arena.
