Meota pushes Shellbrook to brink of elimination

Four different Meota Combines scored in their 4-2 victory over the Silvertips in Shellbrook Tuesday night in SPHL playoff action. The Combines now lead the best-of-five series 2-1. The Combines had a quick start out of the gate.

Four different Meota Combines scored in their 4-2 victory over the Silvertips in Shellbrook Tuesday night in SPHL playoff action. The Combines now lead the best-of-five series 2-1.

The Combines had a quick start out of the gate. Trevor Knight beat Silvertips goaltender Jory Segberg 75 seconds into the game to give Meota an early 1-0 lead. Al Howat and Aaron Cadrin assisted on the goal.

Meota stayed on the attack extended the lead to 2-0 two minutes later. Bo Gervais and Brody Tatchell hooked up for another goal. Gervais found the back of the net from Tatchell. It was Tatchell's eighth assist of the series.

Daxen Collins gave the Combines a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission. He scored an unassisted shorthanded goal with 2:12 left to play in the first.

The Silvertips got on the board midway through the second period. Matt Mortensen scored on Combines goaltender Carson Churchman with 12:39 remaining in the second. Nick Martin and Devin Waterhouse picked up the assists.

In the third, Shellbrook cut the lead to one. Devon Dicus beat Churchman with 12:15 to left in the game. Brett Mason and Josh Elliot set up the goal.

The Combines iced the game when Shellbrook pulled their goalie late in the third. Taylor Tatchell shot into the empty net to give the Combines a 4-2 win.

Game four of the best-of-five series is Saturday night in North Battleford. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
