Midget AA Barons still on top of Centre Four League

It has been a busy, hockey-filled week for the Midget AA Barons with 5 games in 8 days. The Barons first of five was played Nov. 17 at the Civic Centre with a victory of 8-2 over the Warman Wildcats.

The Barons first of five was played Nov. 17 at the Civic Centre with a victory of 8-2 over the Warman Wildcats. Braydon Buziak and Quinton Cubbon each scored a pair of goals, while Jayden Nachtegaele, Connor Urlacher, Kevin Bendall and Keegan Tiringer scored single goals. Matthew Flath was in net for the Barons. Warman received goals from Cullen Giesbrecht and Klayton McKenzie.


Nov. 19, the Barons travelled to Unity to take on the Lazers. The Unity Lazers beat the Barons 5-0 in a physical contest. Taryn Kotchorek faced 46 shots in net for the Barons. Justen Close picked up the shutout for Unity. Landon Longmire scored twice for Unity. Blake Robertson, Thomas Duhaime and Jared Hillis also found the back of the net for the Lazers.


The Barons were back on the road Thursday night in Beardy's to face the Blackhawks. Battleford was handed a 6-3 loss with Flath in net. The Barons' goals were scored by Buziak, Tiringer and Cubbon. Brendon Boyer lit the lamp four times for the Blackhawks. Nikolas Person and Ryley Regnier added the Blackhawks's other two goals.


Battleford returned home Friday night to host the Prince Albert Raiders. The Barons came out ahead with a 6-3 win. Mason Carriere had two unassisted goals. Bendall, Owen Lamb, Buziak and Kage Pooyak netted a goal each. Taryn Kotchorek was the winning goaltender facing 34 shots. Brendan Beaulac, Zach Hurd and Chris Woods all scored in the third period for Prince Albert.


The Barons faced off against the Unity Lazers again Sunday, This time, Battleford was victorious with a final score of 2-1. After the first period, the Lazers were up by one on a goal from Hillis. Bendall tied up the game in the second for Battleford. With a minute and 13 seconds left in the game, Cubbon scored a power play goal to put the Barons in front for good.


The Battleford Barons are still in first place of the Centre Four Hockey League. They continue their season with three games this weekend. The Barons are on the road Friday night to play the Midwest Redwings at 8 p.m. Battleford then heads to Warman Saturday night to face off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. The Barons return home Sunday to take on the Red Wings at the Civic Centre. Puck drop is 5:15 p.m.
