After falling to 0-13 on the season, the Battlefords Midget Stars finally snapped their losing streak with a 5-4 win in Swift Current against the eighth place Legionnaires.

The Battlefords Stars potted four goals in the second period of Sunday's game en route to the win in front of rookie goaltender Nigel Detbrenner-Rempel.

Detbrenner-Rempel faced 41 shots for his first win as a Star improving his record to 1-3-0.

The Stars first two goals came off the stick of Carter Danczak, who has six goals on the season. Jordaan Braun and Kihisis Derocher had the assists on Danczak's second goal of the game.

The team's leading scorer, Brody Tatchell, scored from Blake Young and Regan Yew and later from Regan and Robin Yew to tie the game in the second period.

Tatchell has eight goals this season, four in the last three games, and is tied for fourth among league rookies in goals scored in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

Derocher scored his second of the season with 12:34 left in the third period, which held up to be the game-winning goal. Danzcak drew an assist on the game winner.

The Stars first win came on a road trip that included just 14 skaters on their roster in their 14th game of the season. Defenceman Garrett Zelinski and Zach Nedelec didn't play on the weekend and the Stars no longer have veteran forward Zackary Klebaum listed on the team's roster.

Saturday, the Stars were in some penalty trouble and couldn't kickstart the offence enough to stay with Swift Current, as they lost 6-1.

Tatchell was the lone goal scorer for the Stars with Robin Yew and Eric Pfeifer drawing the assists on the third-period power play goal.

The Stars' penalty kill was strong, as they killed off 13 of 14 shorthanded situations, but Blair Mahon faced 41 shots in 49 minutes allowing four of the five goals to Swift Current.

The Stars started the month of November with a 5-1 loss to Prince Albert Thursday.

Tatchell was again the Stars' lone goal scorer, as Robin Yew and Young had the helpers on the late, third period marker.

Mahon was busy once again for the Stars against Prince Albert, facing 52 shots.

The Stars were again the more penalized team against Prince Albert, as they are 1/18 on the power play in their three games this month. The penalty kill has been strong, as the Stars have been shorthanded 28 times in three games and allowed just three goals.

The Stars will look to make it two straight wins, as they host the Beardy's Blackhawks Wednesday.

The Blackhawks' goalie, and former Star, Regan Santoro leads the league with a 1.83 goals against average and .937 save percentage. The last time he played in the Battlefords, Santoro and the Blackhawks shut out the Stars for a 5-0 win earlier this season.
