It was a busy stretch in the schedule for the Battlefords Midget Stars, as they played three games in four nights starting Thursday on home ice.

The Stars hosted Prince Albert Thursday before heading to Tisdale for games Saturday and Sunday. The Stars faced some good goaltending and salvaged a single point in the three games while their goaltender Rylan Toth played great in the games.

Thursday, Prince Albert came out strong and fired 16 shots at the Stars' net. Toth was excellent for the Stars in the first period and held the game at 0-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Stars played a bit better, but it was Prince Albert earning the 2-0 lead. The Stars also thought they had scored in the second, but the goal was waved off because the referee signaled the puck was put in with a high stick. Nonetheless, the Stars had a chance to even the score in the third period, which was likely their best period of the game.

Josh Bly scored for the Stars with five minutes left from Austin Duzan, but the Mintos scored with less than two minutes left to end the hopes of a comeback.

Toth made 29 saves in the loss while the Stars put 24 shots at Lane Michasiw in the Prince Albert net.

Duzan was named the Stars' player of the game while Justin Boyer was Prince Albert's game star as he recorded a goal and an assist. Prince Albert was 2/6 with the man advantage while the Stars were 0/5.

Saturday, it was a goaltending battle as Toth was in net again for the Stars. He made 24 saves while his counterpart Cody Murray made 37 and both goalies were named game stars.

Tisdale started the scoring in the first period and added another goal early in the second on a power play.

The Stars' offence came alive in the third period when Spencer Bast scored on the power play from Bly and Robin Yew.

Regan Yew tied the game with his fourth goal of the season from Ashton Clark and Eric Pfeifer with two minutes to play.

Overtime solved nothing and the Stars earned the 2-2 tie, as they had to kill two penalties in overtime and had 17 seconds of power play time in a game which had 19 power play opportunities in total.

Sunday, it was Ryan Rewerts' turn to start in net for the Stars. Rewerts surrendered four goals in 32 minutes and was replaced by Toth, as the Stars trailed 4-1 at that point.

Tisdale added their second shorthanded goal of the game later in the second period and held on for the 5-2 win.

Regan Yew scored again for the Stars early in the second period from Duzan and Robin Yew. Regan Yew was the Stars' game star.

Ryan Frehlick also scored his first goal as a Star from Terrin Belosowsky in the second period.

The Stars sit at 3-5-2-0 on the season and in eighth in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings.

Next up are home games Saturday and Sunday against Yorkton at the Civic Centre at 4 p.m. and 11 a.m.
