Midget Stars start Mac's with win

One of the top teams from British Columbia faced one of the top teams in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League and the Saskatchewan representatives earned the win.

The Battlefords Midget Stars played their first game of the Mac's Tournament in Calgary on Boxing Day.

The Stars had a slow start, as they trailed 2-0 after the first period.

Midway through the second period, Spencer Bast scored from Josh Bly and Kent Walchuk.

In the third period, Terrin Belosowsky and Regan Yew scored power play goals 23 seconds a part to give the Stars the 3-2 lead. Braden Lacoursiere and Walchuk had assists while Bly assisted on both goals.

With less than a minute left Walchuk scored an empty net goal and Bly drew his fourth assist of the game.

Rylan Toth made 29 saves in the Stars' net for the win.

The Stars will be in action again Thursday at 9 p.m. against the Calgary Buffaloes, who los their first game to the St. Albert Sports Raiders.
