Minor Hockey teams gear up for playoffs

Bantam AA It was a decent week for the Bantam AA Broncos as they picked up wins in two of their three contests. The Broncos kicked off their week in excellent fashion as they knocked off Prince Albert 5-4 on home ice on Jan. 31.

Bantam AA

It was a decent week for the Bantam AA Broncos as they picked up wins in two of their three contests.

The Broncos kicked off their week in excellent fashion as they knocked off Prince Albert 5-4 on home ice on Jan. 31.

Luke Stadnyk led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring twice, while Kylynn Olafson, Tyler Lindal, and Austin Berezowski added the others as the Broncos were tied at one after period one, and led 3-2 after two.

Unfortunately for the green and gold, they were unable to carry that momentum into their next contest, a 5-2 loss to West Central on Feb. 3 in Rosetown.

Jackson Mark and Connor McGrath each scored once for the Broncos, who led 2-1 after the first and second periods.

The Broncos returned home the following afternoon and rebounded from their loss, knocking off Yorkton 6-5.

Mark, Olafson, Kaiden Korolchuk, Easton Ediger, Griffen Helberg, and Nolan Allan all found the back of the net for the Broncos who trailed 3-2 after the first, and led 5-4 after the second.

Bantam A

It was a tough way to end the regular season for the Bantam A Broncos as they suffered a pair of blow out losses.

The Broncos kicked off their week on a low note as they were routed 8-2 by Wynyard on Jan. 29 in Wynyard.

Jack Biemans and Jackson Leonard led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring once each, as they trailed 4-1 after the first and 7-2 after the second.

Wrapping up the week, the Broncos dropped a 7-1 decision to Davidson on Feb. 2 in Davidson.

Carter Pavelich had the lone goal for the Broncos as they trailed 1-0 after the first and 5-0 after the second.

The Broncos’ 0-2 week saw their regular season record finish at 5-13, good enough for fourth in the league rankings.

Thanks to their fourth place finish the Broncos will have home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs when they take on Lanigan.

Peewee 1

The Peewee 1 Broncos will head into the playoffs with a little momentum as they picked up wins in two of their final three regular season contests.

The Broncos enjoyed a solid start to their week as they picked up a 5-3 win over ViCo on Jan. 30 in Colonsay.

Preston McAvany led the way offensively for the green and gold scoring twice, while Aiden Paslowski, Carson Haugan, and Owen Engele-Lueke added the others as the Broncos trailed 2-1 after the first and 3-2 after the second.

The momentum kept on rolling into the Broncos’ next contest, a 7-3 win over Watrous on Feb. 2 in Humboldt.

Dayne Beuker led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring three times, while Karver Simoneau, Haugan, Seamus Menz, and Paslowski added the others as the Broncos 4-1 after the first, and 6-3 after the second.

The Broncos were unable to wrap up their week on a high note as they suffered a 7-6 loss to Foam Lake on Feb. 4 at the EPA.

Haugan led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring three times, while Paslowski, Ian Stock, Abigail Martin each scored once as the Broncos trailed 4-1 after period one and 5-3 after period two.

Thanks to their 2-1 week the Broncos wrapped up their regular season with a record of 8-10, good enough for eighth in the league standings.

The Broncos’ eighth place finish was just enough to make the playoffs as the top eight advance, with the Broncos taking on top ranked Davidson in round one.

Peewee 2

It was an awful week for the Peewee 2 Broncos as they dropped all three contests, and ended the regular season on a five game losing streak.

It was a tough start to the week for the Broncos as they were routed 8-2 by Wynyard 1 on Jan. 31 in Englefeld.

Preston Dyck and Liam Reineke had the goals for the Broncos, who trailed 5-0 after the first, and 6-2 after the second.

Things did not get any better for the Broncos in their next contest as they were soundly beaten 10-4 by Wynyard 2 on Feb. 2.

Reineke led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring three times, while Cuyler Brooks added the other as the Broncos were tied at three after period one and trailed 8-3 after period two.

The final game of the week went only marginally better for the Broncos as they fell 7-4 to Raymore/Strasbourg on Feb. 4 from Watson.

Joe Green led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring twice, while Wyatt Flory and Joshua Schmidt each scored once as the Broncos trailed 2-0 after the first and 4-3 after the second.

Thanks to their 0-3 week the Broncos regular season record finishes at 6-11-1, good enough for ninth place in the league standings.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, their ninth place finish leaves them on the outside looking in at the playoffs, as they move into the consolation playoffs, with their second round matchup coming against the winner of Drake/Nokomis and ViCo.

Thanks to finishing ninth the Broncos receive a first round bye.

Atom North

It was a decent week for the Atom North Broncos as they picked up one of a possible four points.

It was a tough way to kick off the week for the Broncos as they suffered a 3-2 loss to Wadena P on Feb. 1 in Wadena.

Jarek Zimmerman, and Cohen Siermachesky each scored once for the Broncos who trailed 1-0 after the first, and 3-1 after the second.

The week ended in decent fashion for the Broncos as they picked up a 4-4 tie with Wadena J on Feb. 4 in Wadena.

George Armstrong, and Caden Bauml each scored twice as the Broncos trailed 2-1 after the first and 3-2 after the second.

The 0-1-1 week put an end to the Broncos’ regular season, as they compiled a record of 5-9-2 good enough for sixth place in the league’s North Division standings.

Thanks to their sixth place finish, the Broncos were unable to qualify for the playoffs, and will be taking part in the consolation playoffs, where they will take on Wadena P, with the Broncos holding home ice advantage.

Atom South

It was a solid week for the Atom South Broncos as they picked up wins in two of their three contests to close out the regular season.

It was an excellent start to the week for the Broncos as they piled up ten goals in a 10-7 win over ViCo on Jan. 29 in Viscount.

Preston Hoppe led the way offensively for the green and gold scoring five times, while Sloan Harder and Caprice Harder each scored twice, and Maya Mortensen added the other as the Broncos led 3-2 after period one and 8-2 after period two.

Unfortunately for the Broncos they were unable to keep their momentum rolling in the next contest, resulting in a tight 8-7 loss to Raymore on Jan. 31 in LeRoy.

Hoppe led the way offensively once again for the Broncos putting up another five goal effort, while Sloan Harder added the other two as the Broncos led 4-3 after the first and were tied at five after the second.

The Broncos’ final game of the regular season ended on a high note as they routed Watrous 2 12-2 on Feb. 3 in Humboldt.

Sloan Harder led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring six times, while Carter Possberg and Jackson Haugan each added a pair, and Brock Saretzky and Mortenson each scored once as the Broncos 2-0 after one, and 7-1 after two.

Thanks to their 2-1 week, the Broncos wrapped up the regular season with a 4-11-1 record, good enough for seventh in the league’s South Division Standings.

With their finish the Broncos were unable to qualify for the playoffs, and will instead be taking part in the consolation playoffs.

The Broncos’ first round matchup, will actually be a round robin with ViCo and Strasbourg, with the team with the best record moving on to round two.

Novice 2

It was an excellent week for the Novice 2 Broncos as they piled up 23 goals in a pair of wins.

The Broncos’s biggest win of the week came in their opening game, a 17-3 win over Muenster/ Lake Lenore W on Feb. 3 in Humboldt.

Tryce Wallin led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring six times, while Jake Hoppe chipped in with four, Jack Currah and Carter Trann each scored twice, and Jonah Hayward, Cohen Massier-Kubiak, and Elias Hillier each scored once as the Broncos led 4-1 after one and 12-1 after two.

The Broncos’ final game of the week did not have the same offensive outburst but it had the same result as the Broncos knocked off Rose Valley 6-1 on Feb. 4 in Watson.

Wallin led the way offensively once again for the Broncos scoring three more times, while Currah, Massier-Kubiak, and Hillier all scored once as the Broncos were tied at one after period one and led 5-1 after period two.

Novice 3

It was a big weekend for the Novice 3 Broncos, who picked up a pair of wins, outscoring the opposition 20-3.

The Broncos kicked off their week on an excellent note as they piled up 13 goals en route to a destructive 13-0 victory over Rose Valley on Feb. 3 in Humboldt.

Carter Possberg led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring six times, while Zane Sand chipped in with a pair, and Karston Leonard, Mitchel Dagenais, Andrew Millette, Hudson Armstrong, and Bryden Staniec each scored once as the Broncos led 4-0 after one and 8-0 after two.

The green and gold wrapped up their week on a high note as they picked up a 7-3 win over Watson on Feb. 4 in Watson.

Mason Parobec led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring three times, while Armstrong and Staniec both chipped in with a pair as the Broncos led 1-0 after the first, and 6-3 after the second.

Novice 4

It was an ugly weekend for the Novice 4 Broncos as they picked up a 26-4 loss to Lanigan B on Feb. 4 in Lanigan.

Seth Holtvogt led the way offensively for the Broncos scoring three times while Wyatt Meekins chipped in with the other as the Broncos 6-1 after one, and 15-2 after two.
