It was a tough way to end the season for the Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks as they fell 19-0 to Lanigan in the Horizon School Division Flag Football West Division final in Humboldt on June 6.
The loss ended a solid season for the Mohawks, who finished the regular season as the top seed after posting a record of 4-1-1.
Defensively the Mohawks were excellent all regular season as they shut out opponents in three of their six contests and held opponents to a league low 22 total points.
While the defense was excellent at shutting opponents out, it was their consistency all season that shone through as their regular season high in points allowed was just eight, a feat they managed twice.
The impressive defense was particularly evident against Lanigan, as they shutout the Lazers in each of their two regular season contests.
Unfortunately, they were not able to replicate that feat one more time in the final.
While the Mohawks defense was solid all season long, it was their offense that at times gave them trouble, and did so once again in the final.
The shut out in the final was the third time in seven total games that the Mohawks failed to register a point, and despite finishing as the league’s top seed, managed just the third most points in the division.
Despite the tough ending to the season, the Mohawks can return a number of key contributors to next season’s roster, as they look to climb to the top step of the podium, after losing in the division final for the second year in a row.
With flag football now in the books, high school athletics have completely wrapped up for the 2017-2018 school year.
