It was a tough weekend for the Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks senior volleyball teams as both teams saw their seasons come to a close.

The senior girls hosted the six-team 4A West Region tournament on Nov. 12 as they welcomed teams from Rosetown, Maple Creek, Saskatoon Christian, Lanigan, and Outlook.

The Mohawks kicked off their tournament against Outlook.

The match did not go terribly well for the Mohawks as they failed to score more than 19 points in either set, dropping a two sets to none match to Outlook (25-16, 25-19).

Needing a win in their second match to keep their season alive the Mohawks ran into a tough team from Lanigan who captured the conference championship the week prior in the Mohawks own gym.

The Mohawks put up a good fight in their second match but could not break through as they lost two sets to none (25-20, 25-18).

With the loss the Mohawks were eliminated from the tournament, ending their season.

The senior boys traveled to Tisdale on Nov. 12 for the five-team 4A East Conference 1 tournament.

Joining the Mohawks at the tournament were the hosts from Tisdale, as well as teams from Nipawin, Melfort, and Sturgis.

The Mohawks opened their tournament with a match against Nipawin, where they dropped the match two sets to none.

In their second match, the Mohawks rebounded from their tough opening match defeat to knock off Sturgis two sets to none to improve their record to 1-1.

The Mohawks moved on to their third match against Melfort, but they could not keep the momentum going over Sturgis as they dropped a two sets to none defeat.

In their fourth and final match the Mohawks needed a win over Tisdale, which they got as they dropped Tisdale two sets to one.

That one dropped set would prove costly for the Mohawks however, as they finished in a three-way tie for second, with Tisdale and Melfort but were dropped to fourth place by virtue of having a lower sets won to lost ratio than both Melfort and Tisdale.

That fall to fourth would prove costly for the Mohawks as they saw their season come to an end as only the top three teams from the conference tournament earned berths in the regional tournament.

With the volleyball season now over for all of the teams from the Humboldt schools, they now turn their attention to the basketball season, which kicks off in December.
