The Humboldt Collegiate Institute Mohawks were hard at work over the weekend shooting for the bulls-eye at the National Archery in School Program provincial championships.
The Mohawks sent five archers to provincials, where they managed middling results.
With not enough archers to compete in the team event, the shooters were left competing only for individual glory.
Lyka Calong finished as the Mohawks’ top marksperson, grabbing a score of 241, which included five scores of 10.
Calong’s points finish left her in 15th overall in the grade 11 girls competition, 42nd in high school girls action, and 77th overall.
Finishing just 14 points back of Calong was teammate Jhane Ayam.
The grade 11 student finished the competition with a score of 227 points, including three scores of 10.
Ayam’s finish was good enough for 20th in grade 11 girls, 56th in high school girls, and 115th overall.
Andrea Gonzales finished third amongst HCI archers, posting a score of 208, including three scores of 10.
Gonzales’ score managed finishing positions of 24th in grade 11 girls, 56th in high school girls, and 161st overall.
Just seven points behind Gonzales was teammate Coby Matalski.
The grade nine student, and lone male on the team enjoyed a decent competition, in his first foray into high school archery, posting a score of 195, which included two scores of 10.
Matalski managed to claim a 38th place finish in grade 9 boys action, while posting finishing positions of 103rd in high school boys and 282nd overall.
Rounding out the Mohawks contingent was Jessabelle Aswigue.
The grade 12 student posted a score of 183, thanks in small part to a pair of 10s.
Thanks to her score, Aswigue claimed a 19th place finish in grade 12 girls, 84th place finish in high school girls, and 209th overall.
The Mohawks will look to build on this year’s result when they return to provincials next season, with all members eligible to return except Aswigue.
