The summer hockey season is upon us and for some local hockey players that just means they are getting busy now.
Four locals, Bryson Monych, Chase Caron, Tori McDonald and Keanu Foulds, played in the Atom Inter-Provincial Aboriginal Minor Hockey Championship in Prince Albert March 30, 31 and April 1. They came home with four victories and the championship banner for the third straight season.
In the first game, the four locals along with eight others won 4-2 over the combined team of Onion Lake and Sandy Lake. Their second and third games were much easier, as they beat Cumberland House Cree 9-1 and Shoal Lake 20-1.
The final was a rematch with the Onion Lake/Sandy Lake team and again they won by a 4-2 score.
Last weekend, Keanu crossed the border and played in the Alberta Provincial Championship as a recruit. Keanu's team won round robin games against Kainai First Nation 11-2, Hobbema First Nation 11-1 and Tsuu-T'ina First Nation 9-2. In the semifinal and championship game they won 10-0.
This weekend he is off to Saskatoon for more hockey and potentially his fourth straight championship banner in five weeks.
