It's a new venture for the village of Muenster to have a team in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball AA Midget League.
The Muenster Red Sox, made up of Grade 10, 11 and 12 boys, is being coached by Garret Korte. His father, Jim Korte, stepped in as assistant coach.
"I have a grandson in midget ball now, and my son is the coach," Jim Korte explained. "We only have three boys who are in Grade 12, so we're struggling a bit, we're a pretty young team actually."
So far, they sit in sixth place in the league standings after a home game win against the Weyburn Beavers, 4-2, on June 16.
Like most other teams in the province, the Red Sox managed only one game of the three they were scheduled to play that weekend due to heavy rains.
On the mound for seven innings, Cole Ramler pitched a solid game, only letting the Beavers bring in two runs for the game.
"We were leading 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning," Korte said. "and they had a runner at second base with one out, so there was a little pressure on them."
That didn't daunt the Red Sox, who "shut 'em down" as Korte says, and earned them their win.
The next games for the AA Midget team are away games against the Lumsden Cubs, June 30.
On July 8, Muenster hosts the Pilot Butte Broncos at 12:00 p.m. on their diamond.
