NBCHS basketball teams stay hot

It was a shiny weekend for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School senior basketball teams. The boys won gold while the girls earned a silver medal at their tournaments. The boys were at the Prince Albert St.

It was a shiny weekend for the North Battleford Comprehensive High School senior basketball teams.

The boys won gold while the girls earned a silver medal at their tournaments.

The boys were at the Prince Albert St. Mary's tournament where they beat Mount Royal 78-26 and Meadow Lake 67-58 to advance to the championship game.

In the A final, the Vikings were up against Prince Albert St. Mary's and won 87-77 to add another gold medal to their season record.

Not only was it impressive to beat the host team in the final, but also P.A. St. Mary's is ranked second overall in 4A boys' rankings. NBCHS is ranked third in the category.

The boys will look to continue their momentum in Swift Current this weekend.

The girls' team was at the Lloydminster Comprehensive tournament on the weekend and after beating Wagner High School from Edmonton and Luther High School from Regina, the Vikings went up against Bev Facey High School from Edmonton in the final.

The Vikings lost an intense game 70-67 in the final earning silver and losing just their second game this season.

NBCHS is ranked second in 4A girls behind only Humboldt.

Other Northwest high school teams in the rankings include the Lashburn boys, who are ranked ninth in the 2A division, Unity is ranked 10th in 2A girls and in the 1A boys division Chief Poundmaker is ranked second, Borden is third and Luseland is fifth.

The second rankings list will be released prior to the beginning of playoffs and the race to HOOPLA, which starts March 9.
