New Horizons golf report

When the New Horizons play golf they like to bunch up, or so it seemed on Monday.

Leading the pack, all alone and at par, was the team of Ralph Soiseth, Iris Thompson, Herman Friesen and Jim Taylor.

But who was next? There were three teams in a row that came with scores of 38 and it was John Dove who decided second place by coming closest to the pin on eight and sinking the putt. With him were Don Murray, Lynn Williams and Don Beggs.

The third place then went to Merv Zulynik, Allie Raycraft, Ken Holiday and Bruce Dalshaug. They edged out George Ferguson, Etta Meisner, Dale Cane and David Page on the seventh hole.

It was John Dove who won an extra ball by coming closest to the pin on eight. Jutta Whitbread was the big prize winner by sinking the longest putt on nine and winning the Co-op car wash; and from what I hear it was a long, long putt that did it.

It is not true then, that the last team in gets to put there names on the card to win these prizes, because in this case it was Frank Simpson, Norm Soiseth and Faye Carson who get the consolation prizes, and they were the last in.

Remember the next outing will not be on the Monday because of the long weekend, but rather on Thursday. It will, however, be at the regular starting time of 8:30 and the early birds are usually first on the tee or close to it.
