On a Thursday in August it was not expected that there would be a big turnout for New Horizons golfing, and there wasn't.

Only 29 came to play and they did not do all that well, as the best score of the bunch was only 38. At two over par, the winners were Jutta and Lyle Whitbread, along with Dick Blum and long-ball hitter Herman Friesen.

Shortly out of the hospital, Art Strueby led his team of Sid Waters, Brian Miller and David Page into second place, only one stroke back. But then there was a count-back for the third spot and a par on the sixth hole gave Nester Brunwald, Jim Fraser, Gerry Bristow and Lynn Williams the third place ball. The consolation prizes went to the MacNabbs, along with Don Beggs and Ralph Soiseth.

Soiseth also gets an extra ball for coming closest to the pin on eight. Then it was Brunwald who sank the first putt on nine that day, and low and behold it was also the longest one. He gets his car washed courtesy of the Co-op for that effort.
