When this gets to the press, the New Horizons will be playing the wind-up games of the season. The rinks playin a money spiel March 25 consisting of three four-end games against teams more or less of the same calibre. At the end of the day, if a team won all their games, they would come ahead by one dollar. If they lost allthree games, they would be down by two.It is a high stakes competition.
It was the Belyk bunch that took the tophonours by losing only one game in 2014.Doug didn't do it all by himself. The strong team also had Hank Nickel playing third, Pat Tilmans as second and Jim Taylor starting off by setting up each end.Wally Gordey helped out when Hank was away.
The Belyk bunch took one in the first, gave up two in the second and then counted four in the third. It was a steal of three in the sixth that reallysealed the game against Doc Hall. One can almost say with certainty that practice pays.
TheKjargaard team counted three in each of the first two ends, but then added only one in the third. They didnot stopcounting there and added more. They played this game so fast that they didn't give Allan Rogers time to get on the board until the eighth. It was actually a cruel game with no letup. However, Al did count a legitimate five in the final end.
Eugene Korpach counted four in the fourth to double up the three that Dick Munn counted in the third.Looking at this game, there was hardlyever a rock through the house with at least six rocks in the rings. It was a big score and ended in a tie with Korpach playing a takeout to count two. There were only two ties in the 66 games played. Munn's team were involved in both of them.
Dick Horrell started out with five in the first end, counted three more in the third and led by five after four. That five was the margin throughout the game as Bob Krismer just couldn't catch up.
Peter Pauls and Bryan Peever were all tied after three and again after five.A three in the sixth broke the game open for the Pauls group. That three gave Pauls a three point win over Peever.
The Forester foursome did not letup at the season's end. They counted 1-3-4-3 before conceding one to the Alexander Scott group in the fifth end. The two teams shook hands after six.
