The No. 43 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is hosting the 61st annual provincial curling playdowns at the Northland Power Curling Centre March 15-16.

The public is encouraged to join the air cadets as they play round robin games to determine the provincial air cadet curling champion for 2014.

Foam Lake, Sask. hosted the first provincial playdown for youths 13-18 years old for the Air Cadet League 61 years ago. Air cadets now allow youth 12-18 years old to take part in training that includes leadership, citizenship, gliding, flying, survival, technical training, sports and physical fitness.

The No. 43 RCACS last hosted provincials were in 1991. The cadets from No. 43 RCACS won the gold medal in 1995.

The Air Cadet League divides the province into six zones for curling competitions where teams earn the right to compete at the provincial level. Many squadrons have local competitions to determine who will attend the zone competition.

No. 43 RCACS received a bye into provincials since they are the host team. The rink consists of Hannah Adamcryck, Zachary York, Zachary Blackmon, Dylan Patton and Jet Linn.

The tournament features six-end matches that are an hour and a half long. The matches will be played from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

There will be information displays and raffle tickets on sale for prizes.
