No North Stars earn weekly honours

As the North Stars went into a bit of a slide in the past two weeks, they were left off the weekly Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League honours, however, their opponents were not. The SJHL player of the week was Flin Flon's Dillan McCombie.

As the North Stars went into a bit of a slide in the past two weeks, they were left off the weekly Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League honours, however, their opponents were not.

The SJHL player of the week was Flin Flon's Dillan McCombie. He had two hat tricks during the week and with seven goals and an assist in four games earned the weekly praise.

Dylan Smith of Estevan, Brandon Millin of Notre Dame, Nathan Boyer of La Ronge and Dylan Balaski of Flin Flon were the week's honourable mentions for the player of the week.

Along with the Bombers, the North Stars also faced La Ronge and the key reason for the Ice Wolves' win that night was goaltender of the week Alex Rajotte. Rajotte was 1-0-2 on the week including a 58-save shutout against the North Stars and a 17-round shootout loss to the Humboldt Broncos Saturday. The Broncos had every player remaining on their bench shoot and one player shoot twice while the Ice Wolves had 17 of 18 skaters take a shot. Just three goals were scored of the 34 shooters.

Devin Buffalo of Flin Flon, Blake Voth of Melville and Matt Hrynkiw of Humboldt were the honourable mentions in the goaltender of the week category.

Carson Grolla of Notre Dame was the defenceman of the week with two goals and three assists in four games. Kameron Ballas of Humboldt, David Roper of Flin Flon and Kelly Leismeister of Yorkton earn the honourable mentions.

Last week's winners were Weyburn's Jesse Ross as the player of the week with one goal and nine assists in four games, Weyburn's Tyler Borstmayer was the defenceman of the week and Deven Dubyk of Humboldt was the goaltender of the week.

Despite the recent success of the Broncos' goaltenders, they have acquired another goalie, as Patrick Terriss of the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL was sent to the Broncos then traded to Grande Prairie for goalie Colin Dzijacky.

In the CJHL weekly rankings, the North Stars were in the fourth spot for the Dec. 5 rankings, but since then they have gone 2-3-0-0 and likely have dropped.

The SJHL now breaks for eight days, as action resumes Dec. 30.
