It wasn't long ago, Jordan Fransoo was skating with his brother and some friends in the Battlefords, playing rec hockey games waiting for his hockey season to officially start.

Now the 62? 180-pound defenceman is lacing them up with a little more purpose. Fransoo is taking part in his first ever NHL rookie camp and tournament with the Ottawa Senators.

Fransoo played with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings last season recording six goals and 12 assists, good enough for third on the team in rookie points and second on the team in defenceman points.

Fransoo was drafted in the NHL's seventh round, 186th overall, by the Senators this summer.

The rookie camp and tournament begins Friday, where Fransoo will be the youngest player on Ottawa's roster. Fransoo will share a locker room with Ottawa prospects such as Robin Lehner, Patrick Wiercioch and Stephane Da Costa, who all played games in the NHL last season.

The Senators' rookies will practice Friday morning before heading to Oshawa, Ont. There the Senators will play Pittsburgh's rookies Saturday, Chicago's Sunday, practice Monday and wrap up the tournament Tuesday against the Maple Leafs' rookies.

Fransoo played midget AAA hockey with the Stars for one season and was also with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.
