It was a learning experience said North Battleford Beavers coach Dean Dimmick of the Saskatchewan Baseball Association's Mosquito AA Provincial Championship in North Battleford on the weekend.

The Beavers were one of six teams competing for the provincial title. Dimmick said that just two of the team's 12 players have played provincials before and that it was good experience. The hope is that the effort by the coaches, players and parents can continue to increase the popularity of baseball once again in the Battlefords.

Despite going 0-3 on the weekend, the Beavers had a successful showing with a well-organized tournament at top-notch facilities and a lot of raw potential in the young players.

The Beavers lost to Martensville and Swift Current during the round robin and Lloydminster in the quarter-finals Saturday afternoon.

The championship game went down to the wire, as Swift Current up ended the Weyburn Beavers 9-8 Sunday.
