North Star defenceman Brody Luhning was named the SJHL defenceman of the week for the week of Nov. 7 to 13.

The Battlefords North Stars have a player back on the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's player of the week list, as Brody Luhning was named the defenceman of the week.

Luhning had one goal and two assists in three games for the North Stars last week. He has four goals and 11 assists this season, but it would be safe to expect those numbers to get even better, as he and Woody Klassen have been playing on the first power play unit together in the Battlefords.

Luhning is the second defenceman from the Battlefords to earn the SJHL defenceman of the week praise. Travis Sparrow earned the honour for the week of Oct. 10 to 16.

Humboldt's Logan Sproule, Melville's Lee Christensen, Nipawin's Jesse Williamson and Flin Flon's David Roper were honourable mentions.

The player of the week was Melville's Jesse Mireau. Mireau had 12 points in four games including a six-point game against Kindersley.

The Battlefords' Blake Tatchell was again in consideration for the player of the week award along with Melville's Ian McNulty and Russell Trudeau and Weyburn's Jesse Ross.

In goal, Deven Dubyk of Humboldt was named the goaltender of the week after winning both his starts and posting a 1.45 goals-against average.

Blake Voth, whose rights were traded from the North Stars to Melville last week, was an honourable mention for goaltender of the week along with Andy Desautels of Flin Flon, Matt Hrynkiw of Humboldt and Ty Reichenbach of Notre Dame.

In other SJHL news, Team West beat team East in the President's Cup Prospects game in the CJHL.

Former Battlefords Midget Star and current Kindersley Klipper, Justin Lund, scored a goal for Team West in one of the two games. The West won both, 5-3 and 4-3. Lund was joined by other SJHLers: Jared Iron of La Ronge, TJ Reeve of Melville and Dawson MacAuley of Yorkton for the games played in Langley, B.C.

News out of La Ronge is that last season's league MVP has returned to the La Ronge Ice Wolves from the CHL. Marc-Andre Carre has one goal and two assists in his first two games since returning to the SJHL.

One the national scale, the Battlefords North Stars remain the only SJHL team to hold a spot in the CJHL top 20 rankings. The North Stars dropped from sixth to seventh, while Weyburn earned an honourable mention this week. The Woodstock Slammers of the MHL are ranked first for the second straight week.
