Before the losing streak could stretch out of control, the Battlefords North Stars quickly put an end to it and two players who had key roles in earning two wins received Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League player of the week runner-up honours.

Jordan Ethier was an honourable mention for the player of week. Ethier has played eight games with the North Stars now and has five goals and five assists including two goals and an assist against his former team, the La Ronge Ice Wolves, last week.

Zac Ashdown of La Ronge earned the player of the week honours with three goals and two assists in three games. Riley Paterson of Yorkton and Riley Storzuk of Flin Flon also received honourable mentions.

Devon McMullen of Yorkton was the defenceman of the week. His steady two-way play was the main reason for the honour, as he also contributed one assist in three games.

Battlefords' Woody Klassen, Humboldt's Kameron Ballas and former North Star, Zach MacLellan, who now plays with Estevan, were the honourable mentions at the defence position.

The SJHL goaltender of the month was Taran Kozun of Nipawin. The honourable mentions were Colin Dzijacky of Humboldt, Tyler Ross of Estevan, Brett Teskey of Weyburn and Ty Reichenbach of Notre Dame.

In the Canadian Junior Hockey League's weekly rankings, the North Stars moved from 12th to 13th. Humboldt jumped into third place after being ranked sixth last week. Weyburn also made the list this week after being an honourable mention last week. The Red Wings are ranked 16th. The Penticton Vees of the BCHL are in first place for the second straight week.

The final stat of note from the past week's SJHL action is that the Melfort Mustangs ended the Humboldt Broncos' winning streak at 17 games with a 1-0 shootout win Saturday. Humboldt remains on top of the SJHL and are six points ahead of the North Stars, who have three games in hand.
