It wasn't the best way to end the 2012 portion of the schedule for the Battlefords North Stars.
The North Stars hosted the Humboldt Broncos in front of nearly 1,100 fans Friday at the Civic Centre, but the only offence from the North Stars that the fans witnessed was in the Kramer Auction shootout after the game.
The Broncos recently battled with Flin Flon and were tied for the top spot in the Bauer Conference and they showed why they are consistently one of the best teams in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in their final game of 2012.
The Broncos scored three times in the first period, as Adam Antkowiak, Joey Davies and John Lawrence all beat Casey Parker on their way to a 6-0 victory.
The North Stars had several power play chances to draw closer in the game, but some shots off the iron and good saves from Matt Hrynkiw helped the Broncos kill off all eight shorthanded situations.
In the second period, Cody Pongracz, who was once listed with the North Stars, scored his 15th goal of the season. Ryan Aubertin also scored in the second period for the Broncos.
In the third period Pongracz added a power play marker to finished the scoring.
Humboldt was 2/6 with the man advantage and was outshot in the game 35-24.
Parker allowed five goals on 16 shots while Ryland Pashovitz, who joined the team after Connor Creech was sidelined with an injury, surrendered one goal on eight shots.
Also on the injury list for the North Stars is Tanner Quinn, and Matt Sherran. The North Stars dressed listed player and Battlefords Midget Stars defence Eric Pfeifer for the game along with defenceman Alex Pernitsky and forward Joel Blaquiere.
Along with the affiliated players in the lineup, the North Stars had three of their regular young players drop the gloves on Friday night. Spencer Gosselin, Josh Betinol and Luke McColgan all had fighting majors for the North Stars.
The Battlefords head into the break in fourth place in the Bauer Conference with a 17-14-1-1 record. They sit one point back of the Nipawin Hawks and seven up on La Ronge.
The North Stars hope to have some players return from injuries after the break meaning a slightly different look to the roster. Besides the loss to the Broncos they had an impressive final two weeks of the 2012 portion of the schedule. The North Stars are 5-3-1-1 in their last 10 games.
