The final piece for the Battlefords North Stars bench has been added for the 2017-18 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League campaign.

The team announced Wednesday evening that Saskatoon native Rachelle Matisz will be the athletic trainer and equipment manager for the defending Canalta Cup champions.

She will be replacing Robbie Tanner, who moved back to British Columbia following last season.

Matisz spent last season with the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Drumheller Dragons and was also the trainer for the Manitoba Bisons’ women’s hockey program for two years.

Joining Matisz on the bench will be new head coach and general manager Brandon Heck and assistant coach Boyd Wakelin, who were both officially hired by the team last week.

Following Friday’s annual golf classic at Jackfish Lake Golf and Conference Centre and next week’s hockey school for minor hockey players, the North Stars will hold their 2017 training camp from Wednesday, Aug. 30 to Saturday, Sept. 2.

Their pre-season schedule is slated to get underway Sunday, Sept. 3 with a visit to the AJHL’s Bonnyville Pontiacs.

Both sides will square off again at the Civic Centre Monday, Sept. 4.
